EXT. DINER - DAY

A young man, THE BIKER, parks his motorcycle out front. Exiting the diner is a woman, who seeing the Biker, grabs on to her purse and hurries off to her car.

The door rings as he steps inside. He scans his surroundings and finds an empty booth in the corner.

A WAITRESS walks over to greet him,

WAITRESS

You just coming through?

The Biker nods,

WAITRESS (CONT'D)

What'll it be then?

BIKER

A coffee, black.

The Waitress disappears into the kitchen. Moments later she returns with a steaming pot of coffee.

As she's pouring,

WAITRESS

Anything else?

The Biker shakes his head.

At a far off table, a SHERIFF is eating breakfast with his DEPUTY.

DEPUTY

Crawford called.

SHERIFF

That right?

DEPUTY

Left a message.

Beat.

SHERIFF

And?

DEPUTY

He said he made contact. Ten kilos,

DEPUTY (CONT'D)

like you wanted.

The Sheriff nods and stuffs his mouth with eggs,

SHERIFF

Good...

The Deputy darts his eyes around and sees the Biker in the far corner.

The Sheriff notices the Deputy staring and turns to get a look.

DEPUTY

You think he's one of them?

The Sheriff shrugs,

SHERIFF

I'll talk with him. You go see about Crawford.

The Sheriff stands, puts on his hat, and walks over to the Biker.

SHERIFF

Morning son.

The Biker looks up,

BIKER

Did I do something wrong Sheriff?

SHERIFF

Not at all, was just making the rounds.

BIKER

Well you don't have to worry, I'm just grabbing a coffee.

SHERIFF

A coffee?

The Biker nods. The Sheriff turns to look out the window, he sees the motorcycle.

SHERIFF (CONT'D)

Is that your bike?

3.

BIKER

Yes sir.

SHERIFF

My uncle used to ride. He said a motorcyclist had to ride with a certain elegance. That way people will look past the fact that they're terrible machines.

The Sheriff turns to the Waitress at the counter,

SHERIFF (CONT'D)

Marcy!

The Waitress comes over in a hurry,

WAITRESS

Yes Sheriff?

SHERIFF

I'll have what this young man's drinking.

The Waitress gives a weak smile, then disappears into the kitchen.

The Sheriff takes a seat in the booth,

Soon after the Waitress returns with the coffee. This time already in a mug.

SHERIFF (CONT'D)

What's your name son?

BIKER

Leon.

SHERIFF

Where you off to, Leon?

The Biker takes a good look at the Sheriff,

BIKER

A town, couple miles out.

SHERIFF

North, south?

BIKER

North...

4.

The Sheriff grins.

SHERIFF

You wouldn't happen to be going to Blackwood, would you?

The Biker nods,

SHERIFF (CONT'D)

My buddy's the sheriff there... Good people.

Beat.

SHERIFF (CONT'D)

They've been having some problems recently.

BIKER

That so?

The Sheriff nods, he takes a sip, he grinds his teeth in distaste.

SHERIFF

A biker gang's been roaming around there. Bad business...

BIKER

I'll make sure to look out for them.

SHERIFF

You do that...

Both sip their coffee,

BIKER

I should probably get going.

SHERIFF

I'll walk you out...

The two stand up at the same time. The Biker leaves 2 dollars on the table. The Sheriff leaves nothing.

EXT. DINER - CONTINUOUS

Outside the Biker is kickstarting his engine,

SHERIFF

When you see 'ol Billy tell him I say hi.

5.

The Biker nods and eases out into the street. The Sheriff jots down his license plate in a notepad.

Once the Biker is just a speck in the distance, the Sheriff makes his way back inside.

By the restrooms there's a phone. He dials the station number.

SHERIFF

Hey.. yeah Willy. I need you to run this license plate for me. You ready?. 8-TEL. No it's T-E-L... 6-4-5... You got that? Good... Alright yes I'll see you soon. And make sure Crawford delivers on time today. The Mexicans were adamant about that.

The Sheriff hangs up the line and returns to his original table. His food is still there. Another Waitress comes to greet him,

WAITRESS

Who was that Sheriff?

SHERIFF

Oh nothing. Just some business to be dealt with.

WAITRESS

Mhmm...

SHERIFF

Speaking of business, you ever aiming on getting that cherry pie back on the menu?

WAITRESS

If I did, you wouldn't ever stop eating it.

The Sheriff grins,

SHERIFF

But I've been a good boy Martha. Don't I deserve a little something?

The Sheriff reaches over to touch her. She chuckles and moves in closer,

WAITRESS

By god, if you weren't the Sheriff.

6.

SHERIFF

Oh, but I am...
